Find the right car, faster.

project overview

Most car buyers don't start with a clear model in mind — research takes 6–12 weeks, and 61% told us the main reason they hadn't enquired was simply that they were still deciding. Meanwhile, 70%+ of buyers research cars through video, and Carwow already shapes a huge amount of that discovery through Mat Watson's reviews (~2B views a year) — but it was all happening on YouTube, with the transaction coming to us later. Matches closes that gap: a short-form, video-led discovery experience inside the app where buyers express preferences, get matched to models, and shortlist the ones they like — connecting directly into the existing marketplace flow. We chose the app deliberately to test whether it works as a returning, sticky experience before scaling to mobile web. I originated the concept and led the vision and design direction end-to-end — problem framing, strategic case, product shape, and core experience — with a designer joining later to take execution details over the line. Success is measured on enquiries and ARPU, alongside new signals like saved models, repeat visits, and engagement inside Matches itself. The content was created specifically for this project in collaboration with our editorial team, a great example of cross functional committment and collab. Due to launch imminently — [outcome metrics to follow].
